DISPLAY EXPERIMENTATIONS (PART 2)
Moving away from mini installations and experimentations, several attempts were made to install the modular pieces in a larger scale to determine the visual impact and its effectiveness.
Title: Creepers
A white floorboard was propped against the wall instead of using the cement grey floor. 106 plastic pieces were connected together to form vine like plants that have grown on the walls. The intention was to recreate a garden with growing plastic creepers, viewers could engage with the pieces as though they were taking a walk in the garden, viewing plastic purely for its aesthetics.
In comparison with the pieces when viewed on its own with space between them , the connected works appears to be lacking in depth.
To eliminate the possibility of the wall causing the installation to appear flat, the pieces were connected in the similar manner and suspended by transparent nylon strings.
This method of installation was not as ideal. Firstly, the background of the environment, which was beyond my control, was too distracting and did not help in directing viewer’s focus on the pieces. Secondly, when the pieces were connected together, the whole aesthetics instantly became flat, and it was more apparent when suspended.
