YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT
Plastic has many properties that have allowed technology to advance in many ways. One of the properties being the capability of being shaped and molded into any desired form is a good representation of the pros of the material itself. On the other hand, the versatility of plastic is the same component that harms its users and the environment. The production and disposal of plastics has brought about many positive changes to the world but also its fair share of negative impacts.
As a society, we have grown to be so dependent on plastic as a material. Almost all aspects of daily life involves plastics. From transport, telecommunications, clothing and footwear to packaging materials that facilitate the transport of a wide range of food, drink and other goods.
Employing the analogy of “you are what you eat”, to describe a society, consumed by the convenience and availabilty of plastic, that makes it almost impossible live without plastics, just like how we cannot survive without food. The processes undertaken to “cook” my raw materials, plastic, will be similar to cooking processes we engage in everyday. Experimentations will be influenced by verbs used commonly such as frying, boiling, baking, slicing, grilling, blending, pounding etc.
In previous post, i have attempted to deconstruct plastic by blending it. Now im gonna try to fry them :)
