FIRST EXPERIMENTATIONS WITH HEAT GUN
Experiments on heating the deconstructed pieces with a heat gun. Set temperature was 220 degrees celsius. Pieces includes, plastic packings, milk cartons, straws and plastic bags.
Clear Plastic packaging (PET 1)
The pigments started to melt, transforming into a clear blob. Turns white when it begins cooling down. Pieces become as hard as glass-like pieces. The cooling process was quick and this state was achieved within seconds.
Milk Cartons (HDPE 2)
The pigments instantly turns into a clear soft transparent film , within a minute from heating. The melted state of the pigments resembles crystals, however, it cools down quick. Returning to the matt white colour, which is solid and stiff.
Plastic bags (LDPE 4)
The plastic bags shrinks ALOT when heated. The video shows the bag shrinking to a tiny piece within 50 seconds. Interesting texture was observed as well in the process :)
Plastic party cups and straws (PP 5)
The pigments forms a beautiful goo when melting. As its melt the viscosity increases, creating a liquid puddle. Change in state occurred within 2 minutes. Image shows the glossy state before it turns matt after cooling down.
